Dental Bridges

Missy At Dental Barr Group

People in your life will be hard pressed to notice where you once had teeth missing after our Greater Fort Lauderdale, FL, dentists place a dental bridge. That’s because the permanent appliance can be made to perfectly match the color of your natural tooth enamel and fit comfortably in between two support teeth. You only need to have at least one tooth missing to qualify for a dental bridge.

Here’s what you need to know about this type of restoration.

What Are the Components of a Dental Bridge?

For a traditional dental bridge, there are two main components: abutments and pontics. The abutments are basically your supporting natural teeth on either side of the gap in your smile. Dental crowns are put on top of these teeth and sometimes, if needed, the abutments can involve dental implants.

Pontics, on the other hand, are the false or artificial teeth that are situated between the two abutments. Depending on how many teeth you have missing and the condition of your surrounding teeth, our dentists may utilize multiple pontics.

When these two core pieces are put together, you end up with a seamlessly beautiful result that you can feel proud showing off to family and friends.

The Dental Bridge Process

To kick off the dental bridge procedure, we’ll start by administering some local anesthesia to ensure you’re kept comfortable while we reshape your two supporting teeth. Our dentists will need to remove a portion of the enamel on both teeth so the crowns fit properly.

Next, we’ll take impressions of the area where the bridge will be. Those will be sent to a dental lab where the appliance is created. While we wait a few weeks for the final product to return, our dentists will place a temporary dental bridge for you to wear.

When everything is ready, we’ll ask you to come back into our Plantation, FL, dental office so we can remove the temporary bridge and fit you for your new permanent one. If all looks good, our dentists will bond the bridge in place and send you on your way!
